The educational information contained in the PowerPoint presentations on this website is intended to promote awareness of what is happening to our oceans, and to inspire actions that will work towards healthier oceans.

Pacific Coast Wild Salmon Society We cannot match the corporate Norwegian fish farm PR machine, or their lobbying power. Unless we all stand up our fish will continue dying of politics that no longer serve the people, nor our living world. Wild Salmon feed our world.

El Grupo Tortuguero de Las Californias A.C. esta organizando su 11va Reunión Anual del Grupo Tortuguero del 30 de enero al 1 de febrero de 2009, en Loreto, B.C.S. (Capital de Las Californias)

Marine Protection Everyone likes large terrestrial parks and understands why we need them – to protect natural ecosystems and provide recreational opportunities. Most of our parks are “no-take” areas, places where industrial exploitation like logging and mining are banned. This “human hands off” policy for parks allows nature’s processes to unfold untrammeled and consequently best conserves biodiversity. The same fully protective designations are also needed for our marine environments.

The Dogwood Initiative wants to make British Columbia the global model for sustainable land reform. We are starting to succeed. In a few short years we have become the leading land reform organization in BC.

The Western Canada Wlderness Committee was founded in BC in 1980, and is now the largest membership-based, citizen-funded wilderness preservation organization in Canada. We are passionate about saving wilderness and wildlife, and in all of our work we are inspired and informed by the wild places we seek to protect.

The Alliance for Wild Ethics (AWE) is a consortium of individuals and organizations working to ease the spreading devastation of the animate earth through a rapid transformation of culture.

The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society was formally incorporated in the United States in 1981 in the state of Oregon. Previous to this, the idea of Sea Shepherd was formed when Captain Paul Watson founded the Earth Force Society in 1977 in Vancouver BC, Canada. The original mandate of both organizations was marine mammal protection and conservation with an immediate goal of shutting down illegal whaling and sealing operations, but Sea Shepherd later expanded its mission to include all marine wildlife.

Vida Marina Foundation was founded in 2004 in order to create and maintain a protected marine area off the coast of the Osa Peninsula, on the South Pacific side of Costa Rica. We been collecting data, taking ID photos and filming cetaceans since 1999, a solid base of research which enables us to better understand the great variety of species in the area, their behaviors, and the threats that exist to them. For instance, through the data collected on our research tours, we have discovered that almost 80% of the Olive Ridley Sea Turtles have been killed in the last four years.

Oceana Our teams of marine scientists, economists, lawyers and advocates win specific and concrete policy changes to reduce pollution and to prevent the irreversible collapse of fish populations, marine mammals and other sea life. Global in scope, Oceana has campaigners based in North America (Washington, DC; Juneau, AK; Los Angeles, CA), Europe (Madrid, Spain; Brussels, Belgium) and South America (Santiago, Chile). More than 300,000 members and e-activists in over 150 countries have already joined Oceana

Mar Viva promotes the safeguarding and creation of marine protected areas in oceanic and coastal areas in Latin America and the Caribbean. We provide support for the implementation of legislation protecting these areas, the enforcement of existing laws, and efforts to establish new reserves. Our overall aim is effective change toward a more sustainable use of coastal and marine resources.

Pretoma is a Costa Rican non-profit NGO founded in 1997. We are a marine conservation and research organization working to protect ocean resources and promote sustainable fisheries policies in Costa Rica and Central America

Wild Salmon Are Sacred The Get Out Migration is a call to action to make government aware that we want wild salmon to take higher priority than farm salmon.  Farms belong on land.  We will start walking from Sointula, at the north end of Vancouver Island, on April 23 and arrive in Victoria May 8.  Hundreds of people have pledged to walk portions of the trip, there are events under planning every night.www.asupmatoma.org/
